Environmental Project Manager

The successful candidate will:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in Western Canada.

  • Eligibility for a professional designation from any organization listed in the AER requirements for “Professional Sign Off for Upstream Oil and Gas Reclamation Certificate Work”.

Job Duties

As our Environmental Project Manager, you will take the lead on projects across Western Canada, overseeing everything from scope and budget preparation to coordinating staff and subcontractors. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing site assessment, remediation, and reclamation programs for upstream oil and gas clients. This includes scope & budget development, coordinating field and reporting tasks, cost tracking, implementation of our Health & Safety program, and review of all deliverables.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports, including Phase 1 & 2 reports, remediation reports and reclamation applications.
  • Staying up-to-date on environmental legislation and regulatory updates.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of our company policies and practices.
  • Participate in the ongoing improvement of company policies, procedures and technical practices.
  • Occasional field work/trips may be required, although this is not a field-based role.

Environmental Risk Assessor & Technical Reporter

An Environmental Risk Assessor evaluates potential risks associated with environmental factors that may affect human health and the ecosystem. This role involves identifying hazardous substances, assessing exposure levels, and determining the potential impact on both ecological and human systems.

A Technical Reporter, on the other hand, specializes in documenting and communicating technical information related to environmental assessments, legislation, and best practices. This position requires translating complex data into understandable reports for stakeholders, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and effectively conveying the implications

Qualifications

Arletta Environmental Consulting Corp. is seeking a detail-oriented and quality-motivated intermediate to senior risk assessor for our Calgary office. Job duties will include Tier 2 and Tier 3 (site-specific risk assessment) consideration and models, remediation design, technical report writing, and senior review of assessment and remediation reporting, including sign off, process development and staff training and mentorship on technical topics. The successful candidate will be at home on a team of environmental scientists and engineers who share a passion for excellence and a vision of successful site closure.

The position will allow for experience and growth to be developed in a variety of areas in the environmental consulting industry. This role is suited to motivated enthusiastic individuals with a strong technical background in site assessment and risk assessment who seek new challenges and experiences. The position will stay open until a suitable candidate is found.

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Possess a degree from a recognized university and be a Professional (not In-Training) member in good standing of one of the six professional regulatory organizations able to sign-off on land remediation and reclamation work on upstream oil and gas sites in Alberta. Preferred consideration will be given to applicants with a Bachelor or advanced degree in Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Science, Land Reclamation, Agronomy or other related fields of study.

  • Have 5+ years of experience in site assessment and risk assessment projects on both Private & Public Lands in Western Canada.

  • Have strong working knowledge of the Oil & Gas regulatory and reclamation process.

  • Be able to apply Alberta Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 (site-specific risk assessment) soil and groundwater guidelines. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to develop Tier 2 guidelines and conduct SST modelling.

  • Write, Review and Sign-off on technical reports including but not limited to:

• Phase 1 ESA’s

• Phase 2 ESA’s

• Groundwater Monitoring Reports

• Remediation Reports

• EPEA Approval Reporting (Groundwater, Soils)

• File Review summaries and client update letters

• Create and update corporate template reports and workflow documents

• Analyze site assessment data to determine the most effective route to closure, by reviewing the opportunity for pathway elimination, Tier 2 and Tier 3 guideline application.

• Capitalize on opportunities to advance professional knowledge in risk assessment techniques

• Be self-motivated and detail orientated with strong communication, documentation, and technical writing skills.

• Be willing to work flexible hours as required.

• Be willing to work as a team in order to accomplish set goals.

• Include in their cover letter a brief discussion of commonly excluded exposure pathways for benzene in agricultural soils under Tier 2 and explain why.

Job Duties

  • Oversee all field related aspects of environmental field work including safety, vendor supervision and environmental sampling, with a focus on site assessment and remediation projects.

  • Report to project managers on daily field activities, health and safety, and cost tracking.

  • Prepare and submit environmental samples under Chain of Custody.

  • Prepare environmental reports including but not limited to Phase 2 ESAs and Remediation Reports.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and SOPs.

  • Participate in assessing and ongoing improvement of company policies, procedures, and field practices.
